BEIJING — China posted a stable workplace safety record in the first 11 months, with fewer production-related accidents compared with the same period of last year, according to the Ministry of Emergency Management.
From January to November, the total number of major accidents in China, which refers to those caused 3-10 deaths, dropped 10.4 percent year-on-year, said the ministry.
Meanwhile, the number of extraordinarily serious accidents, causing 30 deaths or more, declined 16.7 percent from the same period of last year.
However, seeing two extraordinarily serious accidents and more major accidents in November, the ministry warned the overall situation of workplace safety is not optimistic due to unfavorable weather conditions in winter and economic downward pressures.
China will prioritize safety management of hazardous chemicals, and conduct special safety overhauls targeting key areas including coal mining, transportation, fuel gas and construction to eliminate hidden safety risks and prevent accidents, according to the ministry.
