State councilor meets Kyrgyz president

Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov met with State Councilor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe in Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan, on April 29.

Jeenbekov welcomed Wei’s visit to Kyrgyzstan and extended sincere greetings and wishes to President Xi Jinping. Wei expressed gratitude to Jeenbekov for sparing time to meet him and conveyed President Xi’s best wishes in turn.

Jeenbekov said Kyrgyzstan and China are important strategic partners and he appreciates China’s valuable support for his country, adding the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation has drawn the attention of the whole world.

Kyrgyzstan will firmly support the Belt and Road Initiative, and cooperate with China to crack down on separatist, terrorist and extremist forces to bring benefits to both peoples, Jeenbekov said.

Wei said China and Kyrgyzstan are close neighbors, friends and partners, and in recent years the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership has developed rapidly under the strategic guidance of both leaders.

The cooperation between the two militaries has also yielded great outcomes, Wei said, strongly protecting the two countries’ common interests and maintaining regional peace and stability. China is willing to work with Kyrgyzstan to carry out important consensus the two leaders have reached and strengthen cooperation and communication to promote the development of the two militaries’ relations, he added.

During his visit, Wei also met with Rayimberdi Duishenbiev, chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan, and reviewed the country’s guard of honor.
