State Councilor Wang Yong attended and addressed the 2019 China Food Safety Publicity Week on June 18 in Beijing, calling for efforts to establish a modern food safety system.

He said that related departments in various regions should strictly implement the food safety accountability system, refine the food safety standard system, strengthen supervision, and crack down on crimes and violations in the food industry with severe punishment.

A credit system for food enterprises should be built and accountability for food safety should be identified, Wang added.

He also said that publicity should be extended to encourage people to participate in safeguarding food safety.
