China and Russia are the two biggest neighboring countries which could provide each other with significant opportunities, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said on Nov 7 in Beijing.

He made the remarks when co-chairing the 23rd China-Russia Prime Ministers’ Regular Meeting with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev.

During the meeting, Premier Li said China is willing to enhance political and strategic trust with Russia and expand comprehensive cooperation.

The Premier said there is huge potential for both countries to cooperate, adding that both sides should keep improving trade facilitation and expand bilateral investment. He also stressed the importance of further cooperation in fields like agriculture, cross-border E-commerce and innovation.

Premier Li also noted that China is ready for better coordination between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union.

Medvedev praised the ever-strengthening of the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination. He echoed Li by pledging to aim for more pragmatic cooperation in different fields.

The two prime ministers have also signed a joint communique after the meeting along with multiple bilateral cooperative documents.

The two government leaders also held a joint news conference afterwards.

Premier Li reaffirmed both sides’ willingness to continue to upgrade trade and investment. He also said the two have decided to carry forward the integration of the upstream and downstream of the energy industry, strengthen collaboration in technological innovation, and improve people-to-people exchanges between China’s Northeastern region and Russia’s Far East.

The Premier also stressed the importance of the liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment, calling for agreements on cooperation between China and Eurasia to be either implemented or initiated.
